The purpose of this research is to see: 1. To determine the three optimal maize varieties to be developed in Rejang Lebong Regency, 2. To determine the optimal planting distance to obtain maximum maize production. The experimental design used Divided Plots Design (RPT), namely the main plot of Variety treatment (V), consisting of a. C7 (V1), b). Bisi-16 (V2) and c). Deka-3 (V3). While the subplots of planting distance treatment (J) consisting of: a). 75 cm x 25 cm (J1), b). 75 cm x 20 cm (J2) and c). 60 cm x 15 cm (J3). From the two treatment factors, 9 treatment combinations were obtained which were repeated 3 times so that there were 27 experimental plots. Based on the results of the analysis of the source of diversity (Anova), it is known that the treatment of corn plant varieties has a real effect on the wet weight variable and a very real effect on the dry weight of corn, but no real effect on the variable number of cobs. The results of the analysis obtained that the variety V2 (Bisi-16) is not significantly different from the variety V3 (Deka-3) but significantly different from the variety V1 (C-7) on the wet weight of corn, the characteristics of Bisi 16 corn, which has large cobs, the number of rows 16-18, tight seeds from the base to the tip, sturdy stems and resistant to collapse, small kernels and seeds stuck causing increased yields. Meanwhile, the plant spacing treatment had no significant effect on the observed variables of wet weight, dry weight and number of cobs of corn plants. The use of spacing J3 (60 x 15) cm and spacing obtained dry weight of corn kernels 181, g is the optimum result from the use of other spacing treatments. Furthermore, the optimum plant spacing reduces competition for water absorption and elements needed by plants, so as to obtain optimal wet and dry weight results. The combination of the two treatments of varieties and plant spacing has an interaction that has a very significant effect on the variable dry weight of corn kernels, but has no significant effect on the number of cobs and wet weight, Table (2). that the treatment combination of variety V3 (Deka 3) with spacing J3 (60 cm x 15 cm) is significantly different from other combinations with other treatment combinations, such as V1J3, v1j1, V2J3, V3J1, V2J2, V3J2, V2J1 dsn V3J3, on wet weight. The treatment combination V2 J1 (Bisi 16 variety with a spacing of 75 x 25 cm), was significantly different from the other treatment combinations on dry weight.
