Abstract

Banana plants are propagated vegetatively, namely by using saplings that grow from the parent tuber. This research aims to determine the best type of coconut water for long soaking treatment on the growth of Ambon banana seedlings. The design used was a Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with two factors. The first factor is the 2 types of coconut water, namely old and young coconut water. The second factor is the length of soaking which consists of 3 levels, namely control, 2 hours of soaking and 4 hours of soaking. The treatment was repeated 3 times. The variables observed were shoot growth time (days), plant height (cm), number of leaves (strands), leaf length (cm) and stem diameter (mm). The research results showed that giving old coconut water without soaking gave good results, this was seen to increase the fastest shoot growth time, namely 14.33 days after planting. Soaking in old coconut water with a soaking time of 2 hours gave the best results for the plant height variables, namely 26.24 cm, number of leaves (3 leaves), leaf length (14.11 cm) and stem diameter (6.16 mm). This is thought to maximize the absorption of coconut water, thereby encouraging the development of cell differentiation so that the plant height, stem diameter and number of leaves increase.
